Simple Health SPA Day

What do you do when your life takes off on mach 4 with your hair on fire? When your ficus tree has not recovered from last year’s frost and unfinished projects stare at you reminding you that it’s almost the end of the year again? When a family of mice have moved into your side yard, you had to take antibiotics this year for an infection and some of the goals you had for 2013 are rolling over to 2014? You put on the brakes and prepare for a SPA day (Slow down, Pray, Affirm).

SPA days are one of my monthly delights. It is a day set aside to care for my human design, body, mind, soul and spirit. It is centered in slowing down, praying and affirming The Twelve Laws of Simple Health. A SPA day is spent increasing the laws of rest and cleansing to assist the body in the work of self-healing and self-rejuvenation.

In general I enjoy two kinds of SPA days that are carefully planned according to my body’s needs. The first SPA day is to assist my human design with self-healing and self-rejuvenation. The second SPA day is focused on replenishing my physical, spiritual and emotional reservoir in preparation to continue to serve my family and others. Here is a quick run down of each SHM SPA day.

1st SPA Day: Self-Healing and Self-Rejuvenation

  • Prepare for your SPA day.
  • Purchase what you need
  •  Plan your day

Place: plan your SPA day when your schedule allows a day of solitude at home. The most effective SPA day is centered in quietness.

Time: plan your SPA day from 6:00 a.m. in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon. This is sufficient time to rest and cleanse.

SPA Schedule

6:00 – 7:00 a.m. take a brisk walk/outdoors/listen to music/memorize scripture/drink a bottle of water/refrain from technology

7:00 – 8:00 a.m. administer a water cleansing enema or coffee retention enema

8:00 – 9:00 a.m. shower/enjoy a fruit or vegetable smoothie

9:00 – 10:00 a.m. devotional/Bible reading/music/memorization

11:00 – 12:00 p.m. pedicure/remove dead skin gently with emery file/soak your feet in hot water for twenty minutes/scrub again gently with towel/dry/polish your nails your favorite color/stand back and admire/ahhhh!

Shape eyebrows, scrub face gently with cream, rinse and pat dry. Using a facial steamer cleanse your face or soak face towels in hot water, squeeze excess water out of towel and lay them on your face for a few minutes to cleanse pours and relax.

12:00 – 1:00 drink a green juice by blending 1 cucumber, 2 stalks of celery, 1 handful of parsley, one handful of cilantro, 1 cup frozen spinach and water to the halfway mark. Enjoy over ice, sip with a straw.

Watch your favorite video/read your favorite book/drink water/listen to a sermon/pray.

2:30 – 3:00 Eat a small raw salad.

Simple Health Hint: Preparing vegetables and juices the day before will keep you resting, relaxing and cleansing on your SPA day rather than absorbing your time working.

2nd SPA Day: Replenishing your Reservoir

  • Prepare for your SPA day.
  • Purchase what you need.
  • Plan your day.

Place: plan your SPA day when your schedule allows a day of solitude at home. The most effective SPA day is centered in quietness.

Time: plan your SPA day from 6:00 a.m. in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon. This is sufficient time to rest and cleanse. Replenishing your reservoir is about serving yourself so that you can be refreshed, re-invigorated, re-vitalized and re-energized.

As you plan your R&R you will want to choose your resources wisely. The best resources for replenishing your spiritual and emotional reservoir should be centered in enjoyable reflections in scripture, music and meaningful videos. I use my SPA day to be strengthened as much as to rest. I use my time wisely as the day goes by quickly. Again, prepare well in order to increase your rest.

SPA Schedule:

6:00 – 7:00 a.m. take a brisk walk/outdoors/listen to music/memorize scripture/drink a bottle of water/refrain from technology

8:00 – 9:00 a.m. water cleanse/coffee cleanse (optional)

9:00 – 10:00 a.m. shower/get ready for the rest of your SPA day/consume a fruit smoothie

10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prepare a living room picnic/lunch or tea with your favorite healthy foods. Serve them in your favorite dish ware, make plenty and savor your food while enjoying any of the following. There are countless of ways to rejuvenate and re-energize your soul. Here are a few of my favorite:

  • Light your favorite scented candle
  • Read Psalm 119 aloud
  • Make SHM kettle popcorn
  • Watch a meaningful movie
  • Watch a funny movie
  • Listen to music
  • Read your favorite health book
  • Read from your favorite devotional
  • Pray for yourself
  • Express your gratitude toward God for His provision, for all you own, for your cars and food, for your husband, family, joys and sorrows, trials and triumphs and reflect on His goodness
  • Use your rest to pour resources into your body, mind and soul
  • Cuddle with your favorite blanket and books
  • Enjoy your foods through out the day
  • Read poetry
  • Read the book of Philippians aloud (for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure)

Whatever you enjoy on your SPA day prepare well for it and enjoy it to the fullest.

SHM hint: prepare dinner for that evening ahead of time preferably the evening before so that you can re-enter your schedule with ease.
